Did you know that Barrydale Cellar is SA's largest independent producer of pot still brandy?
JOSEPH BARRY CAPE POT STILL BRANDY is a blend of St Emillion and Colombar with the aromas and taste of banana, dried peach, pear and a hint of vanilla and Barry & Nephews Muscat Pot Still Brandy has a delicate, amber colour and the distinct aroma and lingering aftertaste of Muscat infused with oak. The Barry & Nephews was voted best in class at the 2005 IWSC and received a gold medal while the Joseph Barry five-year-old won silver. In 2009, Barry & Nephews won another IWSC gold medal and the Joseph Barry another silver while the 10-year-old Joseph Barry won both a gold medal and the trophy for the best brandy at the show. A visit to the Barrydale Cellar is a must. There is something for the whole family to enjoy - a tour of the brandy distillery, wines and brandies to be tasted and the Heritage Garden to relax in. The Heritage Garden is part of the Barrydale Cellar complex, on the R62, at the entrance to Barrydale.
The garden is a microcosmos of the succulent floral wealth of the winter rainfall area of the Little Karoo that stretches from Barrydale and its surroundings to Ladismith in the north-east. In general the vegetation is dominated by succulents and dwarf shrubs interspersed with herbaceous woody and non-woody bulbs. As the region is divided into different habitats, each with its own distinct flora, this natural division is reflected in the garden layout with each bed representing a specific habitat. When you visit Barrydale, be sure to stop off for a moment's reflection. We also welcome you to the Barrydale Cellar.
