 Barrydale Christmas Wonderland Project December 2009
Each year since 2005 the Magpie Art Collective has installed an annual holiday season creation. This year saw a line up of note for the annual tree lighting ceremony on the Day of Reconcilaition when literally the entire district poured into the CBD of the village to witness a line up of local talent. Visitors from far and beyond flocked into the village especially for the event. Dance performance for the first time this year featured the traditional Khoi-San Riel Dance around the 6 metre tall Magpie Eco-Christmas Tree.
Music items complemented the spirit of cheer from the AGS Orkes providing background music to the Barrydale New Apostolic Church Music Ensemble, a Womens Choir, a rendition of Blikkies Band drumming, to the local Brass Bands sounds of the Young Royal Crusaders. The evening was a fusion of unique Afro-Euro cultural influences ala Christmas in Africa with a particular Western Capes se plattelandse flavour. Our very own Klein Karoo Santa - Dick Pointer and his lovely Christmas Helper Paula were around to greet and meet children. Toys were donated for Net Vir Prets Christmas Party set for the 21st Dec.
The Christmas Tree will remain installed at the Magpie carpark from 16th December until early in the new year. The Magpies will keep the tree alight every night throughout the season!
