Please adopt me!

Cassie Roche and her daughter Danniella have been lovingly nurturing Moonbeam and Angel back to health, 2 horses rescued by KAPS. They were found starved and in terrible condition, but thanks to Cassie's dedication, they are well on their way to good health and loving new homes. Thanks to all in Barrydale who let them graze on their land, it was a treat to see them walking through the village from pasture to pasture!
Mandy, a beautiful greyhound puppy was rescued by KAPS a few days ago in an awful state, and critically under weight. She is now getting all the TLC she can get at KAPS while we search for the perfect loving home for her. Contact Colette on 072 2771056

Various donkeys All ages Several beautiful male and female donkeys in our sanctuary are available for adoption, either in pairs, family groups, mother and foal, or as companions for existing donkeys or horses. Donkeys may only be adopted as family pets

Community Projects: "Barrydale Cares" - "Barrydale Gee Om"

Each Christmas "Barrydale Cares" hands out food parcels to needy families. Here one family receives their parcels, helping them to look forward to a happier Christmas.
Thank you Alex! A good friend of many Barrydalers as well as "Barrydale Cares," Alexander Pickford, once again donated proceeds of her exercise classes to Barrydale Cares. Alex, who lives in the UK, recently spent a few weeks here visiting Nigel & Lynda and conducted a number of yoga classes. On her previous visit, being summer, she gave water aerobic classes. Many thanks, Alex, we probably will never fully appreciate what your donations and other donations mean to people in desperate need. It enables our social worker, Annaline Zulch, to be in a position to have food on hand for the hungry and provides help to the needy in many other ways. For more information on "Barrydale Cares" click on "Community Projects" in the left column (above).
Route 62 - Barrydale
Barrydale, the perfect weekend getaway on Route 62. A beautiful 2½ hour drive from Cape Town. We offer a marvelous selection of accommodation, restaurants and delightfully different shops.
Community Projects: KAPS, Barrydale

Wolf is a Siberian Husky who's owner has moved to Denmark. He's temporarily at KAPS while they sort out his papers to send him out there where he'll at last be reunited with his family! Another happy Husky story is that Daniel Ellis Brown became South African Junior Dogsledding Chamion for 2010 - and we're proud to say that one of his Huskys was a KAPS rescue, who has turned his life around in a big way! Since then, a second Husky from KAPS has joined the team of champions.

We have just heard that Colette Teale, founder of KAPS (Karoo Animal Protection Society) is doing much better and can't wait to get out of hospital. Colette had a close call and was on respirator for a few weeks - she was knocked over by a car while rescuing a dog near Paarl. Our best wishes to you Colette and may you continue to do your wonderful work with the animals who cannot defend themselves.

Mr Len Slater and Silvia and Bernadette Blank have once again made substantial donations to Barrydale Cares. Thank you a thousand times for your kindness. On the 24th Dec, for the fourth consecutive year, the Christmas Food Parcels were delivered to 36 needy families in Barrydale & Smitsville. We were also able to give the small children clean secondhand soft toys and some of the little ones just grabbed the soft toy that was offered to him/her and swiftly gave the toy a kiss and hugged it to them. |

Magpie has done Barrydale proud once again. Their Christmas Tree lighting was bigger and better than ever. This year they teamed up with Basil and Adrian and the team from Handspring Puppet Company who helped the children from Net vir Pret to construct the puppets on parade.
Handspring set up a temporary workshop in the Belanti Cinema, courtesy of Theo Nel and the Barrydale Karoo Hotel. There was a procession of puppets by the children of Barrydale and giant puppets by Handspring. The children performed a San story about the creation of the Milky Way. A highlight of the evening was the lighting of the Magpie Christmas tree.
Adrian, Basil and all at Handspring say;
" We are pleased to report that Handspring Trust, in collaboration with Net-Vir-Pret and Magpie Art Collective, had a joyful time in Barrydale on the 16th December".
The newly formed Handspring Trust is a registered not-for-profit organization seeking to inspire creativity, commitment and innovation in the puppetry arts. The Trust is focussing on developmental work with the communities of rural Barrydale and the urban settlement of Vrygrond near Handspring's factory in Capricorn Park. For more about Handspring Trust please visit the website http://trust.handspringpuppet.co.za or find us on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/handspringtrust |

Our congratulations to Mike Clarke on the Special Achievement Award given at the annual CXPRESS Garden Route Culinary Awards - below is an excerpt, please click on the "Read more link for the full article.
"This year the panel made an exception to the geographical criteria, i.e. just off the Garden Route track, in selecting Mike Clarke from Clarke of the Karoo in Barrydale.
Mike was at the Beacon Isle Hotel for many years and then popularised Crabs Creek in Knysna. Over the years, Mike has worked hard to keep a consistent high standard of cuisine and service, and Clarke of the Karoo has become a destination restaurant on the R62".
